Our history

Metrologic Group designs and sells 3D measurement software solutions, electronic devices and related services. The group provides innovative industrial solutions and products for measurements in a precision range from 1 micron up to 1 millimeter.

Metrologic Group’s solutions are designed primarily for the automotive industry, aerospace, industrial manufacturing, consumer products, power generation, the medical industries, and robots, CMMs and measuring devices manufacturers.

Founded in 1980 in France, Metrologic Group is now a worldwide company with 6 subsidiaries and 18 certified resellers, covering more than 30 different countries.

Since july 2018, Metrologic Group is part of Sandvik Machining Solutions, the tooling business area of the Sandvik Group.

Foundation of Metrologic Group in Meylan by Philippe Cimadomo and Gilles Bartoli, aged 19 years and both were studying electronics engineering.

1982

First digital read out, first geometrical inspection and geometrical compensation.

1985

A technological turning point. Recognizing the importance of the market, Metrologic Group takes a new technical direction to the Metrologic software development.

1986

Development and sale of the first universal, advanced DCC controller for CMM.

1996

Subsidiary opening in Germany near Stuttgart.

1999

Subsidiary opening in the USA (Detroit, Michigan).

2001

Development, with Dassault Systems, of the Catia V5 embedded metrology inspection suite, Metrolog Inspection V5.

2003

Metrologic Group moves to new, larger premises, in Meylan, France.

2004

Silma XG release: Integration of simulation technology to Metrologic Group’s DNA.

2005

First integration of an optical scanner on a CMM with one single software and the ME5007.

2005

First advanced point cloud acquisition in a 3D measurement software, with a metrology analysis approach.

2006

Subsidiary opening in Spain.

2007

Subsidiary opening in China.

2008

Metrologic USA sets up its North American innovation center in a 1,000 square meter facility in Wixom, Michigan.

2008

Acquisition of ATT, an American three-dimensional measurement services company based in Seattle.

2011

First robotic inspection cell with laser radar technology installed in the automotive industry.

2012

Set up of local support team in Curitiba, Brazil.

2013

Metrologic Germany moves to a new German innovation center, a 700 square meter facility in Uhingen.

2015

Launch of Metrolog and Silma X4 i-Robot, inline automated robotic inspection solution.

2017

Launch of Metrolog X4 i-Holo, the first augmented reality inspection solution.

2017

First robot inspection collaborative kart (Kuka KMR) fully controlled by a 3D measurement software, Metrolog X4.

2018

First achievement of absolute accuracy with a robot (CMR) with Stäubli and Kreon.

2018

Our partner Creaform launches CUBE-R driven by X4 i-Robot

2018

Sandvik completes the acquisition of Metrologic Group in July 2018.
